STRENGTH BETWEEN THE MILES
Strength training is an important but often overlooked part of triathlon training. A well-designed strength program can help triathletes improve force production, maintain better form as fatigue sets in, support running economy, and build the durability needed to handle the repetitive demands of swimming, cycling, and running. The goal isn't to become a bodybuilder—it's to become a stronger, more resilient triathlete who can train consistently and perform better on race day.
My background in strength and conditioning, combined with years of experience as a personal trainer and endurance coach, gives me a unique perspective when designing strength programs for triathletes. I hold a Master’s degree in Exercise Science with a focus on Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention and am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA. I have spent years working one-on-one with athletes and clients, developing individualized programs based on their goals, experience, movement patterns, strengths, limitations, and available time. This experience allows me to look beyond a generic strength program and design training that is specific to the individual athlete.
Just as importantly, I understand that strength training for a triathlete is different from traditional strength training. As a USA Triathlon Level 1 coach, UESCA Certified Running Coach, and competitive triathlete myself, I understand how strength training needs to complement—not interfere with—swim, bike, and run training. I can integrate strength and conditioning into the larger training picture, adjusting volume, intensity, exercise selection, and timing throughout the season. The result is a strength program designed not simply to make you stronger in the gym, but to help you become a stronger, more durable, and more effective triathlete.
